In the Footsteps of Carlos V

What do we propose?

We invite you to live the experience of getting to know Extremadura and the lands of the Duero. Transhumance lands where the Camino Real is still used to lead the cattle on their journey to the summer pastures.

What will we do on day 1?

We will discover the city of Plasencia and its great monumental attraction full of history and a unique cultural tradition, within what was a point of reference for all those who walked on the Ruta de la Plata in anciant times.
We will visit one of the palatial cities of Extremadura, a strategic enclave on the Ruta de la Plata. The attractive monumental complex of its historic center is completed with important palaces. Noble, Loyal and Beneficent City it was founded in the year 1186, when the King ennobled it and imprinted it with his silver coat of arms. In 1189 Pope Clement III granted the city the Episcopal See.

We will stay in a Renaissance Palace Hotel from the end of the 16th century that is located in the old quarter of this Extremadura town, in the heart of the old Jewish quarter and very close to the cathedral. It has been declared as an Asset of Cultural Interest.

A professional local guide will show you the past of this illustrious town. Here you will also find one of the most representative monumental complexes in the area, made up of the Old Cathedral, with its Romanesque layout, and the New Cathedral, with Gothic and Renaissance elements.

Along the way we will enjoy local delicacies that we will have as tapas along the cultural gastro tour.

Dinner will be served at the Palace in its restaurant where they have collected the best of the land of paprika, the valley’s orchard, its cheeses, tradition, and care for gastronomy. The important thing is the experience of feeling that food also has its time and its form.

What will we do on day 2?

We will walk on the footsteps that one day Emperor Carlos I of Spain and V of Germany walked, but we will do it in comfortable 4×4 SUVs and accompanied by expert guides who know many secrets of ancient history.
Breakfast at the hotel. Transfer by minibus to the town where we will set off to follow in the footsteps of Carlos V and retrace his last journey. On board a 4×4 off-road vehicle and accompanied by professional guides, we will start the experience as Emperor Carlos I of Spain and V of Germany did almost 500 years ago, in 1556. Over 10 km and at the top of a 1000 m ascent, it poses a challenge in terms of sports and also in terms of culture, travelling through and appreciating the different spaces inhabited for centuries in which there has been continuous movement of people. This experience reveals a spectacular journey not only through history but also through a natural landscape of great diversity, and its excellent gastronomy.

To recharge your energy, during the route we will offer you a picnic of local gastronomic products and wine.

After a day of emotions, we will stay in a Parador Castle. The parador remembers the most famous of its guests through some portraits and heraldic pieces. There are three portraits, copies of originals by Titian.

Dinner will take place in the parador’s restaurant with a carefully selected menu to continue tasting the local gourmet products from the area.

What will we do on day 3?

Breakfast at the parador before heading to the Monastery where Carlos V died.
We will visit the architectural complex with a professional and specialized guide. The current convent was rebuilt on the ruins of the old monastery that served as the emperor’s residence in the last two years of his life (1556-1558). It was declared a European Heritage site in 2007.

Lunch at a rural hotel, a place where you can taste and savor the good cuisine of the region of La Vera.

Return to Madrid and end of the trip.
